How do you connect the controller to the Rain Bird? ›

The controller needs to be connected to your mobile device for the first time. To connect a mobile device to the controller, launch the Rain Bird App, tap the “Add Controller” icon and follow the on-screen instructions.

If your sprinklers are running now, then first turn the dial to the off position. The timer should turn off the water now, if it doesn't you may have a problem with one or all of your sprinkler valves. Please call 800-RAINBIRD or call your local professional irrigation contractor for assistance.

On many irrigation controllers, the pump relay is labeled “P” , “PV”, or “MV”. On Spruce Gen 2, the pump relay can be wired into the dedicated master valve port, labeled “M”

It's possible your valves were opened manually. Locate your valve box(es) and turn the solenoid(s) clockwise until snug. The solenoid is located on top of the valve and looks like a cylinder with two wires protruding out of it.

Check the Main Shut-Off Valve

If you shut the valve off and the sprinklers are still going, that means your valve is faulty. There could be debris in the valve, or it may not be closing properly. You'll need to replace it.

A common reason for a controller to repeat a cycle is too many programmed start times. Only one start time per active program is required, a second start time will cycle the program an additional time. NOTE: In the Start Times dial position, the numbers 1-4 do not represent stations.

Watering frequency options include watering on Odd days, Even Days, Custom days, or Cyclic Days. An example of Custom Days is above, where you choose the specific days each week that will water. An example of Cyclic Days is below. This is where you water every “blank” number of days, and you choose how often that is.

When a controller waters all zones more than one time, like watering all of them in sequence and then starts over and does it again, it may be a programming issue. Sometimes there is more than one start time per program when only one start time was intended. Double check all of your start times and run times.

If you are unable to connect to the controller, try pulling the WiFi module out of the controller and re-inserting it, allowing it to boot back up again. It should be blinking green when you try to connect in the Rain Bird app.
